This resolution authorizes the remission of the real estate taxes, for the tax years 2003 Omitted and 2005 of $30,213.84, for the property located at 6090 North 35th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Body:
Whereas, The property located at 6090 North 35th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin was classified as exempt for through and including 2002 as it was owned and operated by a religious organization; and
Whereas, The property transferred to the Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C., a religious organization; and
Whereas, The Assessor requested a new application for exemption from the Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C; and
Whereas, The Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C. failed to respond to the request for a new application for exemption from the Assessor, so the Assessor placed the property back on the tax roll beginning with the tax year 2003; and
Whereas, The Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C did not respond to the assessment, a tax bill was levied and issued for tax years 2003 through 2005; and
Whereas, In 2005, the Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C filed the application for exemption which was granted for the years 2006 and forward; and
Whereas, The Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C. paid the 2004 tax bill on January 1, 2005; and,
Whereas, The Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C. will not seek reimbursement of the paid 2004 tax bill; and
Whereas, But for the untimely filing of the application for exemption, the property is exempt; and
Whereas, Common Council desires to provide for the remission of taxes outstanding with respect to 6090 North 35th Street; now, therefore be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper city officers are authorized and directed to issue a city check in the amount of $30,213.84, payable to Milwaukee City Treasur...
