Analysis
This ordinance provides that a motor vehicle used for business purposes subject to licensing as a junk dealer or junk collector shall have identifying signs placed on both sides of the vehicle. Identifying signs must include the name of the business or person operating the vehicle, a valid phone number, and the city of Milwaukee junk license number. The lettering of identifying signs is required to be 3 inches high or more. Signs that satisfy state requirements for signage are deemed to satisfy these requirements.
The signage required by this ordinance is in addition to the license sticker that is issued by the city clerk to applicants when a junk collector or junk dealer license is granted. These license stickers are placed on the inside windshield of the vehicle and contain the 3 digit license number and the words “junk collector” or “junk dealer.” As of November 15, 2006, there were 46 junk collector vehicles licensed by the city.
The effective date of this ordinance is July 1, 2007.
