Analysis
This ordinance creates the Frank P. Zeidler community service award selection committee, which shall be responsible for determining the nomination procedure, nomination criteria, selection process and criteria, type of award and award presentation for the Frank P. Zeidler community service award. The award shall be an annual award that recognizes 2 non-government city residents that best exemplify Frank P. Zeidler’s legacy of social justice and civic accomplishment. The selection committee shall be composed of representatives of the mayor’s office, common council, the Frank Zeidler center for public discussion and 2 members from the community, appointed by the mayor and common council president, respectively. Committee members shall serve 2-year terms and shall develop award criteria and submit a report to the common council for approval. The city clerk’s office shall provide support to the committee.

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 320-43 of the code is created to read:

320-43. Frank P. Zeidler Community Service Award Selection Committee.

1.CREATED. a. There is created the Frank P. Zeidler community service award selection committee consisting of:
a-1.The mayor or the mayor’s designee.
a-2.One common council member, appointed by the common council president.
a-3.One community member, appointed by the common council president.
a-4.One community member, appointed by the mayor.
a-5.One member representing the Frank Zeidler center for public discussion.
b.The common council president shall designate the committee chair and vice-chair.
