Title

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the marketing and sale of vacant lots for construction of single-family homes pursuant to Section 304-49-17, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances.
Body
Whereas, Tax Incremental District No. 59 (“TID No. 59”), the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District, approved by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee on September 27, 2005, via File No. 050395, provided financial assistance for the Bronzeville New Home Initiative to strengthen the residential housing stock and expand homeownership opportunities; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) currently owns a number of vacant lots suitable for residential construction within the TID No. 59 boundary and may acquire additional vacant lots through tax foreclosure over the term of the Bronzeville New Home Initiative; and

Whereas, The Department of City Development (“DCD”) in cooperation with the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (“NIDC”) has proposed to market the lots to qualified buyers for development of owner-occupied, single-family homes according to the terms and conditions described in a Land Disposition Report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File; and

Whereas, Section 304-49-17 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances allows the City to accept unsolicited Offers to Purchase when the City receives fair compensation, whether monetary or non-monetary; and

Whereas, The City will benefit from the sale and development of these lots through an expanded tax base and an improved neighborhood, consistent with Section 304-49-17 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and
