Analysis
This resolution will authorize the Commissioner of Public Works to execute an agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for replacing the street lighting units and traffic control signage on East Wisconsin Avenue using Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality funds. The resolution also directs the City's Comptroller to create the necessary accounts to fund the City of Milwaukee's share for construction of this project. The total cost of proposed street lighting and traffic control improvements is estimated to be $815,452.80, with $652,362.24 or 80% of costs provided by federal funds allocated under prior phases, and with local matching funds in the amount of $163,090.56 or 20%, based on previously approved unit prices.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee requested and received approval from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) to continue the implementation of streetscape improvements on primary pedestrian corridors in the Milwaukee Central Business District under the Federal Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CM/AQ) Improvement Program; and

Whereas, These streetscape improvements are being implemented to improve the pedestrian environment in the Milwaukee Central Business district to promote walking as an alternative to automobile trips within the Downtown area; and

Whereas, Implementation of streetscape improvements has begun on East/West Wisconsin Avenue to fully develop the first pedestrian corridor; and
