Title

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Department of Administration to negotiate an agreement with Cellnet Technologies relating to the construction of a citywide wireless network infrastructure.  The negotiated agreement shall be submitted to the Common Council for approval prior to execution.

Body

Whereas, Cellnet Technologies provides fixed network data communication systems and automation solutions to the utility industry, including WE Energies; and

Whereas, Cellnet Technologies has completed Phase One deployment of Mad City Broadband, the City of Madison’s citywide wireless network infrastructure; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has facilities that Cellnet Technologies wishes use and/or occupy; and

Whereas, There would be no direct cost to the City for building the network; and

Whereas, A citywide wireless network would bring many economic benefits to Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The proposed network would be open for other companies to use; and

Whereas, This agreement would be non-exclusive, and other companies could propose to build similar networks; and

Whereas, The City could receive revenue and/or wireless services at no direct cost as part of the agreement; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration is authorized to negotiate an agreement with Cellnet Technologies relating to the construction of a citywide wireless network infrastructure, and submit the negotiated agreement to the Common Council for approval.
