Title

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into and execute a Cost Sharing Agreement with the Village of West Milwaukee to improve a small segment of West Mitchell Street at the CP Railroad crossing just east of Miller Park Way.  The City of Milwaukee’s cost share has been encumbered from the Department of City Development’s account.

Body

Whereas, The Village of West Milwaukee and the City of Milwaukee jointly desire to improve a small portion of West Mitchell Street at the CP Railroad crossing to better serve the redeveloping areas of both communities adjacent to the project area; and

Whereas, The removal of unneeded railroad tracks and installation of new roadway pavement and sidewalk is in the interest of vehicle and pedestrian safety; and

Whereas, The Village of West Milwaukee has submitted a Cost Sharing Agreement to be executed by the City of Milwaukee for the design and construction of this project; and

Whereas, The Village of West Milwaukee cannot proceed with any project cost overruns and/or changes in scope of more than 5% without prior Department of Public Works (DPW) approval; and

Whereas, DPW shall notify the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee at the next scheduled meeting of any such cost overruns and/or changes in scope approved by DPW; and

Whereas, The total estimated cost for this project is $185,000 and the City of Milwaukee portion is estimated to be $31,000; and

Whereas, Funds for the City of Milwaukee’s portion of this project is encumbered in the Department of City Development’s account TD05480002; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to enter into and execute a Cost Sharing Agreement with the Village of West Milwaukee to improve a small portion of West Mitchell Street at the CP Railroad crossing just east of Miller Park Way, a copy of which is attached to Common Council Resolution File Number 060194 and is incorporated in this resolution by reference as though set forth in full; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the appropriate City official is hereby authorized and directed to approve and make payments to the Village of West Milwaukee upon receipt of invoices for the local share of the project.
