Title

Resolution authorizing and directing the Commissioner of Public Works to execute document titled “Revised State/Municipal Agreement for a Highway Improvement Project” with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the programming and improvement of South 29^th Street Bridge over the Union Pacific Rail Underpass with Federal and/or State aid under Local Bridge Program.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to execute a revised project agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) for programming and construction of South 29^th Street Bridge over Union Pacific Railroad Underpass with 80 percent Federal and/or State aid under the Local Bridge Program.  The revised agreement updated the construction costs of South 29^th Street Bridge and added necessary railroad work.  The total estimated cost for the project changed from $1,178,000 to $1,835,500 of which the City’s share is $367,100.

Body

Whereas, A project agreement was executed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) and the City of Milwaukee for the preliminary engineering work for the improvement of South 29^th Street Bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad Underpass in accordance with Common Council Resolution File Number 041495, adopted on April 15, 2005; and

Whereas, Preliminary engineering activities have begun; and

Whereas, The total estimated construction cost for the project changed from $1,178,000 to $1,835,500 of which the City’s share is $367,100; and

Whereas, Estimated costs of all phases of this project are as indicated in the revised project agreement; and

Whereas, A revised project agreement, updating construction costs and adding necessary railroad work to the previously approved preliminary engineering funding has been received from the WISDOT to be executed by the City of Milwaukee for the South 29^th Street Bridge project; and

Whereas, This project is scheduled for construction in spring of 2007 and completed by November 2007; and

Whereas, Funds for the construction phases of the project will be included in future resolutions; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to execute the revised project agreement for the programming and construction of South 29^th Street Bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad Underpass with Federal and/or State aid under the Local Bridge Program, a copy of which is attached to Common Council Resolution File Number 060171, and is incorporated in this resolution by reference as though set forth in full; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to approve and make periodic payments to the WISDOT upon receipt of invoices for the City’s Share of costs of the project.
