Title:

Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant.

 

Analysis:                     

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, in the amount of $273,004  with a grantor share of $209,525 and a city share of $63,479. The purpose of the project is to reduce the volume of controlled substances in the Milwaukee Area. This is a continuing grant that currently funds one Lieutenant of Detectives position.  In addition, this grant will now fund one Police Officer position and one Detective position.

 

Body:

Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.579, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant in the amount of $209,525; and

 

Whereas, The operation of this grant project from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006 would cost $273,004 of which, $209,525 (77%) would be provided by the grantor and $63,479 (23%) would be provided by the city; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of this grant change as indicated in Common Council File 030712; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

 

1.  Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2006 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the project titled  “Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant”:

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Milwaukee Police Department which is authorized to:

 

Expend from the amount budgeted  for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the 2006 Positions Ordinance be amended as follows to reflect the change in positions and related footnote (N):
