Title:
Resolution authorizing application, acceptance and expenditure of a Homicide Review Records Needs Assessment grant (Police Department).

Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Homicide Review Records Needs Assessment project from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice in the amount of $50,000. The purpose of this project is to assess the needs of criminal justice system agencies around sharing data to prevent and control crime.

Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department may enter into an agreement with the Center for Urban Population Health, a consultant to provide expertise and assistance in the area of data sharing/data warehousing; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 05/01/06 to 09/30/06 would cost $50,000 of which 100% would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council file 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2006 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: JAG Homicide Review Records Assessment Grant
