Title

Substitute resolution to ratify and confirm the grievance settlement between the city of Milwaukee and Public Employees’ Union Local #61, LIUNA, AFL-CIO, CLC, relative to certain employees employed in the Operations Division of the Department of Public Works, who were on seasonal layoff in September of 2005.

 

Analysis

This resolution approves the settlement terms between the City of Milwaukee and Public Employees’ Union Local #61, relative the settlement of a grievance involving lost pay to certain employees represented by Local 61 when they were not recalled to work during a nine day period in September of 2005. During that period when certain employees represented by Local 61 were on a seasonal layoff, the City had assigned up to 10 non-DPW Operations Division employees to a crew to pick up large brush piles from private and public trees that were damaged during a September 13, 2005 severe windstorm.

 

Body

Whereas, The City negotiating team and Public Employees’ Union Local #61, LIUNA, AFL-CIO, CLC reached a settlement for a grievance prior to grievance arbitration hearings; and

 

Whereas, This grievance settlement agreement constitutes the full and complete settlement of the grievance which is set forth in the settlement agreement and copies of this settlement agreement are attached to this file and incorporated herein as though fully set forth at length; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that this settlement agreement between the City negotiating team and Public Employees’ Union Local #61, LIUNA, AFL-CIO, CLC, the terms of which are set forth in a document annexed to this file, be approved; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the proper City officers be and hereby are authorized and directed to take the necessary action to implement the terms of this agreement; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That such sums as are necessary for the implementation of the aforementioned settlement agreement in accordance with its terms and conditions be obtained for and charged to the appropriate departmental budget accounts in accordance with the customary reporting and accounting requirements.
