Title

Resolution relating to the implementation of 286-CITY, the citizen request and information line.

Body:

Whereas, File Number 050954 required the Department of Public Works to seek explicit authority from the Milwaukee Common Council prior to implementation of 286-CITY; and

Whereas, In the 2005 State of the City address, one of Mayor Barrett's initiatives was to streamline public access to City government; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works utilized existing resources to design, program and record the 286-CITY citizen request and information line with feedback from other City departments; and

Whereas, Surveys will be conducted with City of Milwaukee residents and the results will be utilized to enhance the system prior to implementation in May 2006; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works-Administration Division requested as part of the 2005 carryover resolution $75,000 in excess 2005 funds to be utilized for a public information campaign which can not be expended until the Common Council approves the implementation of 286-CITY; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works made a presentation to the Steering and Rules Committee on March 9, 2006 regarding the status of 286-CITY and intends on making a final presentation to the Common Council to report the results of the citizen surveys and provide more information on the public information campaign; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, authorizes the Department of Public Works to implement 286-CITY, the citizen request and information line to streamline public access to City government.
