Resolution relative to the acceptance and funding of a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources grant to support the Public Works Yard (Tower) Pond project related to storm water management.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Buildings and Fleet Services to accept and fund an Urban Nonpoint Source Water Pollution Abatement and Stormwater Management Grant Program from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $54,700 with a City share of $27,350, and a grantor share of $27,350. The purpose of the project is to fund the installation of Public Works Yard (Tower) Pond. Funding under this grant will enable the City to control pollutants and improve water quality.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is eligible for grant funds from the Department of Natural Resources for the Urban Nonpoint Source Water Pollution Abatement and Stormwater Management Grant Program; and

Whereas, The City has submitted an Urban Nonpoint Source Water Pollution Abatement and Stormwater Management Grant Program application to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) for the project; and

Whereas, The WDNR has offered the City an Urban Nonpoint Source Water Pollution Abatement and Stormwater Management Grant (Grant Number USC-M102-40251-06) for cost sharing on the project; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant, between August 10, 2005 and December 31, 2007, would cost $54,700, of which $27,350 (50%) is being offered by the WDNR and the local out-of-pocket City share required to receive the grant is $27,350 (50%); and

Whereas, It would appear that the City involvement in a grant aid project involving storm water quality would result in the following major benefits to the City: controlling pollutants entering the City’s storm sewer system and improving water quality; now, therefore, be it
