Title

Resolution directing the Department of Public Works to collect bulky items within 10 working days of the sanitation workers’ notification or the receipt of calls from residents.

 

Analysis

The implementation of the 2005 Budget included a change in the Department of Public Works’ bulky item collection policy. Under the current bulky collection policy, sanitation crews are to notify their supervisors of bulky items that are too large to be taken with regular solid waste and are to be collected at a later date. This resolution directs the Department of Public Works- Operations Division to remove all bulky items within 10 working days of notification by DPW sanitation staff or citizen requests.

Whereas, The implementation of the 2005 Budget included a change in the Department of Public Works’ bulky collection policy; and 

 

Whereas, Most bulky items are now collected during the regularly scheduled solid waste collection, and items that are too large to be taken with the regular collection are to be collected at a later date; and

 

Whereas, Under the current bulky collection policy, sanitation crews are to notify their supervisors of bulky items that are too large to be taken with regular solid waste and are to be collected at a later date; and

 

Whereas, It appears the need for a bulky collection regularly occurs outside of the normally scheduled collection dates; and

 

Whereas, Bulky items require timely removal to protect the public’s health and safety; now, therefore, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works- Operations Division is directed to remove bulky items within 10 working days of the sanitation crews’ notification or the receipt of calls from residents.
