Analysis
This substitute resolution appropriates $50,000 from the 2004 Development Fund for a pedestrian crosswalk pilot program at 3 locations in the city to reduce pedestrian and vehicle accidents.
            
Body
Whereas, The Department of Public Works is responsible for design, maintenance of streets, traffic control devices and monitors and reviews traffic flow and pedestrian patterns; and
 
Whereas, Some intersections, particularly commercial intersections, need physical improvements to decrease the number of vehicle accidents and pedestrian injuries; and
 
Whereas, The City is committed to providing a safe living and working environment by removing any physical impairments impeding pedestrian movement and encouraging pedestrian traffic to increase commercial activity; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that $50,000 is appropriated from the 2004 Development Fund, 0339-9990-R999-UR033040000, and transferred to the Pedestrian Crosswalk Pilot Program Account, 0339-5010-R999-UR03396900, for a pedestrian crosswalk pilot program at 3 locations in the city to reduce pedestrian and vehicle accidents and increase commercial activity; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is authorized to select the 3 locations in consultation with Department of City Development and Common Council members impacted by the program after the review of accident data measuring neighborhood and local business support.
