Analysis
Adoption of this resolution by at least two-thirds vote of the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee will approve the surplus declaration and blight designation of a City-owned property for acquisition by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee utilizing the Spot Acquisition procedures set forth in Section 66.1333, Wisconsin Statutes.
Body
Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (“Authority”) is taking steps to create the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District in the boundary of the North 7th Street and West Garfield Avenue Project Area; and

Whereas, The City-owned vacant lot at 522 West North Avenue is generally unbuildable, but is suitable for assemblage with adjacent property owned by the Authority to create development sites in the Bronzeville District; and

Whereas, In order for the Authority to acquire the property prior to adoption of a formal Redevelopment Plan, the Authority must hold a public hearing and declare the property blighted pursuant to Section 66.1333, Wisconsin Statutes; and

Whereas, The Authority held a public hearing on November 18, 2004, after which it determined the property met the statutory definition of blight and requested Common Council approval of the blight designation and authorization to transfer the property to the Authority; and

Whereas, The City Plan Commission has determined that no other municipal need exists for the property; now, therefore, be it
