Title
Resolution declaring the former Finney Library at 4243 West North Avenue and the adjoining parking lot surplus to municipal needs and directing the Department of City Development to market the property, in the 15th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution will declare a City-owned property surplus to municipal needs and permit the City of Milwaukee to market the property for redevelopment.
Body
Whereas, The City Librarian has notified the Department of City Development (“DCD”) that the former Finney Library at 4243 West North Avenue and the adjoining parking lot at 2232-40 North Sherman Boulevard are no longer needed for library use as a result of development of the new Washington Park Library; and
Whereas, No other municipal need exists for the property and redevelopment of the existing building would be a key economic boost to the North Avenue Commercial District and the Sherman Park Historic District; and
Whereas, DCD proposes to market the combined property for redevelopment according to established criteria, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File; and
Whereas, Upon publication of a Request for Proposal and receipt of an acceptable development proposal, DCD proposes to make a recommendation to the Common Council to sell the property to a buyer whose proposal best meets the established criteria; and
Whereas, The City Plan Commission has determined that the former library and adjoining parking lot are surplus to municipal needs; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the former Finney Library at 4243 West North Avenue and the adjoining parking lot at 2232-40 North Sherman Boulevard are declared surplus to municipal needs; and, be it
