Analysis
This resolution authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to commission the public art component to streetscaping improvements on primary pedestrian corridors in the downtown area. Public art is anticipated to be installed on East Wisconsin Avenue from the Milwaukee River to North Prospect Avenue, and on North Prospect Avenue from East Wisconsin Avenue to East Mason Street in conjunction with the deployment of other streetscape improvements on these roadways. These improvements are to be funded primarily through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation using Federal Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality Program funding.

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has approved funding of a project under the Federal Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ) Program for the development of primary pedestrian walking corridors in the Milwaukee Central Business District to promote walking as an alternative means of transportation in the Downtown area; and

Whereas, Common Council Resolution File Numbers 981733, 990806, and 021033 authorized and directed the Commissioner of Public Works to execute an agreement for the programming and construction of pedestrian facility improvements in primary walking corridors in the Downtown area under the CMAQ Program, and to undertake preliminary engineering for streetscape improvements; and
