Title
Resolution requesting all City of Milwaukee elected officials to provide financial documentation as verification of contributions made to and disbursements made from their campaign accounts.
Analysis
Currently, council rules require members to include financial documentation, such as bank statements, with the copies of their campaign finance reports, all of which are filed with the City Clerk twice a year. This resolution requests that all other City of Milwaukee elected officials provide financial documentation with a copy of their campaign finance reports each year to the City Election Commission no earlier than January 1 and no later than January 31; and no earlier than July 1 and no later than July 20.

Whereas, The State of Wisconsin campaign finance law requires candidates for public office and duly elected officials to disclose to the State Elections Board their campaign contributions and disbursements, and to abide by certain contribution limits and prohibitions; and
Whereas, The State of Wisconsin campaign finance law does not require candidates for public office and duly elected officials to file their bank statements or other financial documentation with the State Elections Board to verify such contributions and disbursements; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has a commitment to free and fair elections; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is committed to maintaining integrity in public service; and
Whereas, In March 2003, the Common Council amended the Common Council Procedure and Rules to require all common council members to provide financial documentation as verification of the reported balance in their campaign accounts to the city clerk; and
