Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant from the United States Attorney of the Eastern District of Wisconsin through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $274,698 with a city share of $112,462 and a grantor share of $162,236. The purpose of this project is to initiate, support and advance law enforcement efforts to reduce gun-related crime and violence.
Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the United States Attorney of the Eastern District of Wisconsin through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance for a Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 01/01/04 to 08/31/05 would cost $274,698, of which $112,462 (41%) would be provided by the city and $162,236 (59%) would be provided by the grantor; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department will deploy officers on overtime in targeted patrols and focused enforcement in an effort to reduce the number of gun-related crimes, especially among youth, in the city of Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the United States Attorney of the Eastern District of Wisconsin through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council file 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
