Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Gang Crime Case Review Project Grant. (Police Department)
Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and fund a Gang Crime Case Review Project Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of $25,398, with a city share of $10,398 and a grantor share of $15,000. The purpose of the project is to pay for overtime expenses for Department members to manually review crime incident reports to identify all gang related crime incidents in the Metcalfe Park neighborhood from 2002 to 2003. This information will be provided to the Office of Justice Assistance for use in evaluating future anti-gang initiatives that are to take place in the Metcalfe Park neighborhood.
Body:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Office of Justice Assistance for a Gang Crime Case Review Project Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 02/01/04 to 09/30/04 would cost $25,398, of which $10,398 (41%) would be provided by the city and $15,000 (59%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that application to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council file 030712; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2004 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: Gang Crime Case Review Project Grant:
