Body
Whereas, Robert J. Modrzejewski was born on July 3, 1934, in Milwaukee and grew up on Milwaukee's South Side; and
Whereas, During his childhood, Robert J. Modrzejewski spent much of his spare time at the Cleveland Playground, 1020 West Cleveland Avenue, where he swam and played baseball and basketball; and
Whereas, Following his education in Milwaukee Public Schools and at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Robert J. Modrzejewski pursued a military career in the United States Marine Corps; and
Whereas, Captain Robert J. Modrzejewski received a Medal of Honor from President Lyndon B. Johnson for his act of bravery during Operation Hastings (Vietnam War) in 1966; and
Whereas, In 1986, having achieved the rank of colonel, Robert J. Modrzejewski retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after nearly 30 years of distinguished service; and
Whereas, In light of Robert J. Modrzejewski's outstanding achievements and his connections to the Cleveland Playground, it is fitting that this playground be renamed in his honor; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Cleveland Playground, 1020 West Cleveland Avenue, is renamed Modrzejewski Playground; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is authorized and directed to make the changes to the signage at Cleveland Playground necessary to implement this name change.
