Analysis:      
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept a contribution of up to $5500.00 from the Wal-Mart Foundation for law enforcement related purposes.
Body:
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the City of Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditure of contributions received by the City, and
 
Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department has been selected by the Wal-Mart Foundation to receive a $500.00 donation for the purchase of bicycles and related riding equipment in the Fifth District Auxiliary Police Bicycle Ride-Along Program, and the Milwaukee Police Department anticipates future donations of up to $5000.00 as a donation to a law enforcement agency through the Wal-Mart Foundation's corporate Safe Neighborhood Program to be used for law enforcement purposes, and
 
Whereas, These donations will increase the effectiveness of the Milwaukee Police Department's crime reduction initiatives by providing additional resources to Department operations; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept a donation of $500.00 from the Wal-Mart Foundation for the purchase of bicycles and related riding equipment, and that the City of Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept future donations of up to $5000.00 from the Wal-Mart Foundation for law enforcement purposes in accordance with established City policies and procedures for acceptance of contributions.
