Analysis:
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a Judicial Oversight Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs through the Milwaukee County's Judicial Oversight Demonstration Grant in the amount of $97,958 with a grantor share of $68,487 and a city share of $29,471. The purpose of the project is to enhance programs and services for victims and perpetrators of domestic violence in Milwaukee County. This grant also funds one exempt Administrative Services Specialist position for twelve months. This position will serve as a liaison between the Milwaukee Police Department and the Judicial Oversight Initiative project.

Body:
Whereas, Although the Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault has helped the Milwaukee community make significant strides toward ending domestic violence, there remains a need to improve victim services and enhance offender accountability; and

Whereas, The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded Milwaukee County a Judicial Oversight Demonstration Grant to pursue these improvements; and

Whereas, The Common Council authorized the City of Milwaukee's participation in the application for this grant in file 990246; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department would be a participating agency in the implementation of this program; and

Whereas, The operation of this program from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2004 would cost $97,958, of which $68,487 (70%) would be provided by the grantor and $29,471 (30%) would be provided by the city; now, therefore, be it
