Whereas, Budgeted funds are insufficient because the Wisconsin Supreme Court recently denied the City's petition to review a judgment of more than $583,000.00 relating to a shooting by an off-duty Milwaukee police officer;
and
Whereas, There is a remaining balance of approximately $374,000 and there will be a potential shortage of $600,000 in the Damages & Claims Fund; and
Whereas, Additional funding is necessary to fulfill the City's legal obligations; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the sum of $600,000 shall be reserved within the 2003 Common Council Contingent Fund (Account No. 0001-9990-0001-C001-006300-2003) for the City Attorney Damages & Claims Fund (Account No. 0001-1490-0001-S118-006300-2003; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to appropriate on an as-needed basis up to $600,000 from the funds reserved within the Contingent Fund, sub-class C001 to the special sub-class S118 under the control of the City Attorney for the purpose of paying expenditures relating to legal obligations mentioned above.
