This resolution authorizes the Port of Milwaukee to accept and fund an unsolicited grant of $250,000 for port security from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has received federal funding of $250,000 for upgrading and enhancing security at the Port of Milwaukee; and, be it

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is specifically earmarked to receive $250,000 in grant funds from the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation; and, be it

Whereas, This funding is specifically for Port security including fencing lighting, video cameras and general port security; and, be it

Whereas, The Port will have to meet new security measures enacted by the U.S. Coast Guard as a result of September 11th in conjunction with the ferry services which is scheduled to begin operating in May of 2004; and, be it

Whereas, This grant was not solicited by the Port of Milwaukee and does not require matching funds; and, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Port of Milwaukee is authorized to accept the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation grant without further approval unless terms of the grant change; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Comptroller is authorized and directed to create the appropriate Port Capital Grant Project account, within the Port Capital Projects Fund 0481, and transfer the grantor share of $250,000 from the 2003 Special Projects Fund 0306, Parent Project SP032030100 for the grantor share funded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation; and, be it
