Body
Whereas, The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners recently randomly excluded approximately 800 applicants for the position of firefighter with the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD); and
Whereas, The Common Council recognizes that this random exclusion - of which all potential applicants were given notice - was done for valid reasons related to not only the cost of testing but also the limited number of actual firefighter vacancies that are likely to occur over the 3-year life of the MFD's eligibility list; and
Whereas, Despite this, there can be no doubt that some of those excluded from the firefighter testing feel aggrieved by their exclusion; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee must strive to avoid any appearance of inequity in its hiring of employees for whatever position; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is urged to extend reasonable consideration to those firefighter applicants recently excluded from firefighter testing, such consideration possibly including, but not being limited to, notice of future firefighter testing and some form of protection against future random exclusion.
