Analysis
This resolution expresses the Common Council's steadfast support for the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, its gratitude to the families and friends of the service members for the great hardship and sacrifice they are enduring, and its desire for a safe and swift return for the troops.
Body
Whereas, The President of the United States has ordered military action against the state of Iraq designed to disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction and to remove the Iraqi regime from power; and
 
Whereas, The military action, known as Operation Iraqi Freedom, presently involves in and around the Persian Gulf region more than 225,000 men and women of the United States Armed Forces, and additional United States Armed Forces are being deployed to the region; and
 
Whereas, The American people have the greatest pride in the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and strongly support them in their efforts; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council steadfastly supports the men and women of our Armed Forces who are carrying out their missions with professionalism, dedication, patriotism and courage; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Common Council expresses its gratitude to the families and friends of the service members for the great hardship and sacrifice they are enduring, and expresses its desire for a safe and swift return for the troops.
