Title
Resolution relating to the application, acceptance, and funding of a "Save America's Treasures" Grant, through the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, for improvements to City Hall. (Buildings and Fleet Services)
Analysis
This resolution would authorize the Department of Public Works to apply for and accept a grant, through the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service for improvements to City Hall.
Body
Whereas, It would appear that the City of Milwaukee is eligible to apply for grant funds from the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service; and

Whereas, It would appear that City involvement in this grant and aid program would result in the following benefits to the City:

Exterior restoration work of City Hall to correct major structural deficiencies;
Securing of financial assistance to preserve a valuable historic landmark; and

Whereas, The operation of the grant would be from September, 2003, to September, 2004, and would provide $1,000,000 towards the City Hall Restoration Program; and

Whereas, The Common Council in the 2003 Capital Budget has authorized $12,400,000 for the City Hall Restoration Program which would provide the required matching share of $1,000,000; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, is authorized and the Department of Public Works shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843 (Grant Ordinance); and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Capital Project/Grant Parent Account of the 2003 Special Revenue Grant and Aids Project, fund the following amounts for the project/program titled Historic ...
