Title
Resolution directing the Intergovernmental Relations Division -
Department of Administration to seek introduction and passage of state legislation abolishing maximum fees for certain alcohol beverage licenses.
Analysis
This resolution directs the Intergovernmental Relations Division -
Department of Administration to seek introduction and passage of state
legislation which would abolish the maximum fees for certain alcohol beverage licenses where the state has established maximum fees.
Currently, municipal governing bodies may determine fee for alcohol beverage licenses; however, the fee cannot exceed the maximums prescribed under state law.
Body
Whereas, Chapter 125, Wis. Stats., prescribes maximum fees which municipalities may not exceed when determining fees for certain alcohol beverage licenses; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is assessing the maximum fees, which, for certain alcohol beverage licenses, have remained unchanged for more than 25 years; and
Whereas, The existence of maximum fees for certain alcohol beverage licenses has not permitted the City of Milwaukee the opportunity to recover the full cost related to issuance and enforcement of these licenses; and
Whereas, The continuation of maximum fees for certain alcohol beverage licenses will not permit the City of Milwaukee to fully recover any future increases related to the cost of issuance and enforcement of these alcohol beverage licenses; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Intergovernmental Relations Division - Department of Administration is directed to seek introduction and passage of state legislation which would abolish the maximum fees for certain alcohol beverage licenses where the state has established maximum fees.
