Analysis
This resolution amends the Redevelopment Plan for the North Harbor Drive Redevelopment Project Area to require Common Council review and approval of design and construction of any new buildings or substantial building improvements within the Project Area
Body
Whereas, In December, 1985, the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Common Council adopted a Redevelopment Plan for the North Harbor Drive Redevelopment Project Area; and

Whereas, On September 24, 2002, the Common Council adopted File Number 020738, a resolution approving Amendment No. 1 to this Redevelopment Plan; and

Whereas, This resolution modified the boundaries of the North Harbor Drive Redevelopment Project Area to include additional publicly-owned properties along the lakefront north of the Maier Festival Grounds; and

Whereas, The Project Area boundary was expanded at the request of the Milwaukee Art Museum, which now may be able to use Redevelopment Authority bond proceeds to fund Museum improvements; and

Whereas, Under state redevelopment authority law, expansion of a project area allows a redevelopment authority to have design and construction review and approval authority for any new construction or building improvements in the additional project area; and

Whereas, Media reports have indicated that additional new construction, apart from work at the Milwaukee Art Museum, has been proposed for land in the expanded North Harbor Drive Redevelopment Project Area; and

Whereas, Any development within the North Harbor Drive Redevelopment Project Area is a matter of community-wide concern because of the manner in which such development ...
