This resolution declares the 2nd Wednesday in November as Youth Government Day in recognition of the efforts of the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin and the YMCA of Metro Milwaukee to promote awareness to Greater Milwaukee youth regarding personal rights and local, state and federal levels of government.
Body
Whereas, The Youth and Civil Liberties Council, which is an initiative of the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin, and the YMCA of Metro Milwaukee, through its Youth in Government Program, are in their third year of presentation of the Youth Government Day in the City of Milwaukee, and
Whereas, Youth Government Day promotes awareness to Greater Milwaukee youth regarding personal rights and local, state and federal levels of government, and engages the youth in positive roles in judicial settings; and
Whereas, At a point in our nation's history where the civil liberties of young United States residents are critical, Youth Government Day prepares Greater Milwaukee youth to become active participants in democracy through campaigning and voting in elections; and
Whereas, Youth Government Day uses effective, hands-on strategies to make learning fun and exciting while illustrating that Greater Milwaukee youth do have an important role in government as students; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the 2nd Wednesday in November is declared Youth Government Day in the City of Milwaukee.
