Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Communication Infrastructure Equipment Program Grant (Police Department).
 
Analysis      
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept, and fund a Communication Infrastructure Equipment Program grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $3,000,000, with a City share of $ 0 and a grantor share of $3,000,000. The purpose of this grant is to obtain communications infrastructure for the City of Milwaukee Police Department.
 
Body:            
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance for a Communication Infrastructure Equipment Program Grant; and
 
Whereas, The operation of this grant from 01/01/2002 to 12/31/2002 would cost $3,000,000 of which $3,000,000 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
 
1.  Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2002 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amount for the program titled: "Communication Infrastructure Equipment Program":

2. Create the necessary Grant and Aid Project/Grant and Project/Grant levels; budget against these Project/Grant values the amount required under the grant agreement;

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Milwaukee Police Department which is authorized to:
 
1.  Expend from the amount budgeted sums for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date;
            
2. Expend from the 2002 grant budget funds for specific items of equipment.
