Analysis
This resolution authorizes the acceptance of the offer of a gift of an ornamental fountain from the Historic Layton Boulevard Association to be located on the median in the 2000 block of S. Layton Boulevard and authorizes and directs the Department of Public Works – Water Works Division to install, operate and maintain the fountain.
Body
Whereas, In 1965, Mayor Henry W. Maier formed the Mayor's Beautification Committee, which included in its proposed efforts the promotion of a city-wide fountain program to help make Milwaukee a "City of Fountains;" and

Whereas, The Mayor's Beautification Committee garnered national honors for the City, winning the highest beautification award, the Trigg Trophy, in 1969, and the praise of First Lady Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson; and

Whereas, In keeping with the proud tradition of promoting city beautification through the integration of fountains as public art, the Historic Layton Boulevard Association has offered to make a gift to the Department of Public Works – Water Works Division consisting of the construction of an ornamental fountain to be located on the median in the 2000 block of S. Layton Boulevard; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works – Water Works Division has previously assumed the responsibility and cost of operating and maintaining several ornamental fountains in various parts of the City; and

Whereas, Because of their expertise in this area, it is practical to have the Department of Public Works – Water Works Division operate and maintain this new fountain; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City, on behalf of the Department of Public Works – Water Works Division, accepts the offer of a gift of an ornamental fountai...
