Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City Attorney to provide limited legal representation to military personnel and their families upon request of the Judge Advocate General Corps.
Body
Whereas, The State Bar of Wisconsin, in conjunction with the Government Lawyers Division and the Judge Advocate General Corps, is sponsoring training sessions for lawyers on the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act and related matters; and

Whereas, The training is anticipated to take no longer than two hours; and

Whereas, The training will be at no charge to the City and will count towards the Continuing Legal Education credits required to maintain a law license; and

Whereas, The purpose of the training is to familiarize civilian lawyers with issues facing military personnel and their families if Reservists and National Guard forces in Wisconsin are mobilized; and

Whereas, In exchange for the Continuing Legal Education and training, lawyers attending the sessions may be asked from time to time to provide specific legal services without charge to military personnel and their families upon mobilization, and if the Judge Advocate General Corps determines that civilian assistance is necessary; and

Whereas, The success of this program will inure to the benefit of the people of the City of Milwaukee, the State of Wisconsin, and the United States of America; and

Whereas, Section 3.03 of the City Charter authorizes the City Attorney to conduct all the business of the corporation and departments thereof and all other law business in which the City shall be interested when so ordered by the Common Council; now, therefore, be it
