This ordinance designates the area bounded by West Juneau Avenue, West Michigan Street, North 27^th Street and North 35^th Street as the "Milwaukee Bed and Breakfast District."

Body

Whereas, The Near West Side neighborhood bounded by West Juneau Avenue, West Michigan Street, North 27^th Street and North 35^th Street is currently home to 4 bed and breakfast establishments; and

Whereas, The concentration of bed and breakfast establishments in this neighborhood has contributed to the stabilization and revitalization of the neighborhood; and

Whereas, This area contains many other large, historically and architecturally significant homes that would be suitable for use as bed and breakfast establishments; and

Whereas, The bed and breakfast establishments in this neighborhood contribute to Milwaukee's ability to offer visitors -- particularly those visiting downtown, Miller Park or the Potawatomi Bingo Casino -- a complete range of lodging options; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee wishes to encourage the opening of additional bed and breakfast establishments in this burgeoning bed and breakfast district; and

Whereas, Formal designation of this neighborhood as a bed and breakfast district would help to reinforce the area's identity as a lodging destination and facilitate joint promotional efforts of bed and breakfasts and community organizations in the area; now, therefore

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1.  Section 295-14-11-b of the code is repealed and recreated to read:

295-14.  Special Conditions.

11.  BED AND BREAKFAST ESTABLISHMENTS.

b.  The area bounded by West Juneau Avenue, West Michigan Street, North 27^th Street and North 35^th Street shall be known as the "Milwaukee Bed and Breakfast District."  In this area, the 600-foot spacing requirement for bed and breakfast establishments specified in this chapter shall not apply.
