This substitute resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to apply for a Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency
Body:
Whereas, Southeastern Wisconsin Counties experienced flooding on July 2, 2000 due to severe storms; and
Whereas, A Presidential Disaster Declaration was declared in Southeastern Wisconsin Counties, which made funding available for mitigation activities through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works submitted a pre-application for the grant program on October 11, 2000 to the State of Wisconsin Division of Emergency Management for acquisition, relocation and demolition of a substantially damaged property; and
Whereas, After review of the initial information in the pre-application, the City of Milwaukee has been invited to submit a formal application for the grant program; and
Whereas, Funding is available from Milwaukee County to cover the 12.5% local share of the grant; and
Whereas, It would be in the best interests of the City of Milwaukee to apply for the grant program and utilize any funding obtained for acquisition, relocation and demolition of a substantially damaged property in the City of Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee hereby authorizes and directs the Commissioner of Public Works to submit a formal application for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding.
