This resolution designates North Downer Avenue between East Webster and East Park Places as an Historic District.
BODY:
Whereas, The Milwaukee Historic Preservation Ordinance, Section 308-81 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, as amended, provides that Historic Sites, Structures and Districts may be designated by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee upon the recommendation of the Historic Preservation Commission; and
 
Whereas, The Historic Preservation Commission recommends that North Downer Avenue between East Webster and East Park Places, be designated as an Historic District; and
 
Whereas, This District possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association and fulfills the following criterion set forth in Section 308-81(2)(e):
 
e-1. Its exemplification of the development of the cultural, economic, social or historic heritage of the City of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin or of the United States.
 
e-5. Its embodiment of distinguishing characteristics of an architectural type or specimen.
 
e-6. Its identification as the work of an artist, architect, interior designer, craftsperson, or master builder whose individual works have influenced the development of the City of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin or of the United States.
 
e-8. Is related to other distinctive areas which are eligible for preservation according to a plan based on an historic, cultural or architectural motif.
 
e-9. Its unique location as a singular physical characteristic which represents an established and familiar visual feature of a neighborhood, community or the City of Milwaukee.
 
; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the portion of North Downer Avenue between East Webster and East Park Places, and further described as follows:
 
Beginning at the intersection of the north curb line of East Webster Place and the west property line of 2551 North Downer Avenue; then east along the south lot line of 2551 North Downer Avenue to the east curb line of North Downer Avenue; then north along the east curb line of North Downer Avenue to the south lot line of 2590 North Downer Avenue; then southeasterly along the lot line of 2590 North Downer Avenue to the rear lot line of the same; then north along the rear lot lines of 2590 North Downer and 2604 North Hackett Avenue to the north lot line of the same; then northwesterly along the north lot line of the same to the west curb line of North Hackett Avenue; then south along the curb line to a point of intersection with the east property line of 2620 North Downer Avenue; then northwesterly along the rear properly lines of 2620 North Downer Avenue to the north property line of the same; then west along the north property lines of 2620 North Downer and 2641 North Downer Avenue to the west property line of 2641 North Downer; then south along the rear lot lines of all properties with frontage of North Downer Avenue to the point of beginning in the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
 
A copy of the legal description is attached to this Common Council File as Exhibit A.
 
be designated as a Milwaukee Historic District. The Preservation Guidelines pursuant to the Historic Designation Study Report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File, shall apply to this District and are adopted by the Common Council as part of this resolution.
