This ordinance requires the department of public works to install multiway stop signs at any intersection where property of an elementary or secondary school or a park is immediately adjacent to a corner of the intersection. The ordinance exempts any intersection with a state highway or that has a traffic signal. The location of any stop sign installed under the ordinance is subject to common council approval.
BODY:
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 101-16-4 of the code is created to read:

101-16. Installation of Stop Signs and Through Highway Signs.

4. SCHOOLS AND PARKS. a. Except as provided in par. b., the commissioner of public works shall install multiway stop signs at the following locations:

a-1. An intersection where property of an elementary or secondary school is immediately adjacent to any corner of the intersection.

a-2. An intersection where property of a park is immediately adjacent to any corner of the intersection.

b. Par. a. shall not apply to an intersection with a state highway or an intersection that has a traffic signal.

c. The commissioner of public works shall submit for common council approval the location of all stop signs installed pursuant to this subsection.

d. Specific locations are to be found in the common council proceedings; the official record on file in the city clerk's office and the code on file in the legislative reference bureau.
