Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install fiber and provide network connectivity at the expense of and for the use and benefit of IndependenceFirst. This will provide IndependenceFirst access to and entry into the WiscNet/BOREAS-Net Abilene/Internet2 education community node located at the Department of Admistration-ITMD Network Operations Center (ITMD-NOC).

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee wishes to affirm the right of individuals with disabilities to live with dignity and appropriate support in their own homes, as well as to fully participate in the mainstream of the Milwaukee community; and

Whereas, Since its establishment as a non-profit organization in 1978, IndependenceFirst has been assisting persons with disabilities to maximize their independence and be full participating citizens in their community; has a vision for full inclusion of people with disabilities in every aspect of the community and commits itself toward this end; and has a mission to effectively facilitate empowerment of individuals with disabilities through: education, advocacy, independent living services, and coalition-building; and

Whereas, IndependenceFirst promotes diversity and multicultural participation in its operations and services; and

Whereas, IndependenceFirst has requested the assistance of the City in obtaining high-speed network connectivity to the internet through WiscNet at its expense; and

Whereas, WiscNet is a not-for-profit association established to further education, research, economic development and public service in the state of Wisconsin by creating and operating a digital communications network interconnecting public and private organizations including the provision of ...
