ANLS:
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works Forestry Division to accept and fund a Greening Milwaukee's Schools Initiatives grant project/program from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $21,900, with a city in-kind share of $21,900, and a grantor share of $21,900. The purpose of the project/program is to create a partnership between Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), the City of Milwaukee Forestry Division, and Greening Milwaukee in an effort to replace asphalt with trees in and around MPS playgrounds, offering a more hospitable environment, free from hard surfaces and extreme temperatures. Playgrounds with trees also offer increased educational and instructional opportunities for teachers and children alike.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to develop a Greening Milwaukee's Schools Initiative to reverse the trend of asphalting Milwaukee Public Schools playgrounds by planting trees through a partnership with MPS, the City of Milwaukee Forestry Division, and Greening Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant project/program over the 2000-2001 state biennium would cost $43,800, of which $21,900 (50%) would be provided by the city and $21,900 (50%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Natural Resources is authorized and the Department of Public Works Forestry Division shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843 (Grant Ordinance); and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
