The current parking violation ordinance increases the amount of the forfeiture when a parking citation is not promptly paid. The amount of the increase depends on the length of time that has lapsed since the citation. This ordinance increases from $20 to $25 the additional forfeiture amount for citations that are more than 58 days old.
 
The additional $5 may be used to pay the cost of using the state traffic violation and registration program. That program suspends the state operator's licenses of vehicle owners whom the City reports as having unpaid parking citations, and the City pays $5 per suspension. The ordinance takes effect September 1, 1999.
BODY:
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
 
Part 1. Section 101-34-3-c of the code is amended to read:
 
101-34. Stipulation Procedure: Nonmoving Traffic Violations.
 
3.      PAYMENT AFTER 10 DAYS.
 
c.      If a stipulation is not entered into within 58 days commencing at 6:00 p.m. on the day the citation is issued, the forfeiture shall be increased by [[$20]] >>$25. Five dollars of the increased forfeiture amount may be used to pay the cost of using the Wisconsin traffic violation and registration program<<.
 
Part 2. This ordinance takes effect September 1, 1999.
