Title
Substitute resolution authorizing the City Clerk's Office to purchase a Youth Council recruitment booth registration at the Fresh Coast Classic College Fair.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the City Clerk to expend not more than $250 for an information and recruitment booth at the annual Fresh Coast Classic College and Resource Fair, November 27, 2013, to be used for recruitment by the Milwaukee Youth Council.
The resolution also commends the Fresh Coast Basketball Classic for its contributions to the Milwaukee Community and encourages students, parents and families to attend both the College Fair on November 27 at the Wisconsin Center and the Basketball Tournament on November 29 and 30 at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
Body
Whereas, The annual Fresh Coast Classic College and Resource Fairwill be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Center, 400 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee; and
Whereas, The Fair, sponsored by the Fresh Coast Basketball Classic and Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) through its TEAM UP College Access Center, is expected to draw between 4,000 and 5,000 high school juniors and seniors from around the Milwaukee area, mostly from the Milwaukee Public Schools; and
Whereas, The Common Council wishes to support the efforts of the Youth Council in recruiting new members and in educating young people about the Milwaukee Youth Council and the importance of civic engagement; and
Whereas, The Common Council supports the continuing presence and involvement of the Youth Council in the Milwaukee community at large; and
Whereas, The Fresh Coast Basketball Classic, to be held this year at Wisconsin Lutheran College on the weekend of November 29 and 30, 2013, draws the attention and participation of thousands of young people throughout Southeastern Wisconsin, and particularly the City of Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Fresh Coast Basketball Classic is commended for its continuing contributions to the Milwaukee community, and particularly to young people from high schools, colleges and universities; and, be it
Further Resolved, That students, parents and families throughout the City are encouraged to attend, participate in and support the Fresh Coast Basketball Classic Tournament, November 29 and 30, 2013, and the Fresh Coast Classic College and Resource Fair, November 27, 2013, at the Wisconsin Center; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the City Clerk is authorized to expend not more than $250 from the City Clerk Office's Other Operating Services Account (Account Number 006300- 0001-1310-R999-2013)to secure a booth for Youth Council information and recruitment at the 2013 Fresh Coast Classic Fair on November 27, 2013.
