- Analysis -

Section 213.11 of the Wisconsin statutes as amended by 1997 Wisconsin Act 223 relates to the organization and operation of the police relief association. It renders surplusage chapter 137 of the laws of 1889 and section 20-19. This charter ordinance repeals and recreates s.20-19 of the charter to provide that the city attorney shall serve as legal advisor to the association.

BODY:

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 20-19 of the charter is repealed and recreated to read:

20-19. Police Relief Association. The city attorney shall serve as legal advisor to the police relief association at no cost to the association.

Part 2. This is a charter ordinance and shall take effect 60 days after its passage and publication, unless within such 60 days a referendum petition is filed under s.66.01(5), Wis. Stats., in which event this ordinance shall not take effect until submitted to a referendum and approved by a majority of the electors voting.
