Analysis This resolution approves amendments to an existing contract with Standard Insurance Company to provide long-term disability insurance to certain City employees participating in the long-term disability benefit program.
BODY:
Whereas, The Department of Employee Relations, Employee Benefits Division has recommended two amendments to the existing policy of insurance between the City of Milwaukee and Standard Insurance Company, Group Policy No. 626556A (the Group Policy) under which long-term disability benefits are provided to eligible City employees, with such amendments to be effective January 1, 1999, or as soon thereafter as the same can be implemented; and

Whereas, The recommended amendments to the Group Policy are as follows: (1) an amendment providing employees who are members of the Association of Municipal Attorneys and are insured under the State Bar of Wisconsin's Disability Insurance Plan can waive the City of Milwaukee's long-term disability coverage, and (2) an amendment necessitated to correct an erroneous reference in subsection (2) of the third Whereas clause in Resolution File No. 970490, which pertained to "employees who are members of both District Council 48 or Local #61, or," so that the Group Policy accurately reflects that employees of the City of Milwaukee who are laid off from positions represented by Milwaukee District Council 48, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, and who are thereafter appointed to positions represented by Public Employees' Union #61, Laborers' International Union of North America, AFL-CIO, CLC shall be covered by the City's long-term disability program only for such time as they are represented by District Council 48 and no...
