Analysis
Currently, the taxicab meter rates for the first 1/6 mile or fraction of a mile are $1.75 and $0.25 for each additional 1/6 of a mile. Under this ordinance the taxicab meter rates will be $1.75 and $0.25 for the first 1/7 mile and each succeeding 1/7 mile until January 2003. From January 1, 2003 on, the taxicab meter rate will be $1.75 for the first 1/8 mile and $0.25 for each succeeding 1/8 mile. In addition, the ordinance increases the charge for each additional passenger over the age of 12 years from $0.50 to $0.75 and raises the minimum fare from General Mitchell International Airport from $4 to $6.
The ordinance also requires the legislative reference bureau, on or before July 31 of each even-numbered year, to provide the common council information with respect to taxicab meter rates and operating costs.
