Analysis
This resolution urges Governor Scott Walker to reject the proposed Kenosha casino project due to the adverse impacts the development will have on Milwaukee.
Body
Whereas, The Menomonee Tribe is seeking federal and state approval to develop an off-reservation Indian casino in Kenosha; and

Whereas, While Kenosha casino supporters claim the project would provide about 3,300 permanent jobs and 1,400 construction jobs, it is estimated that Milwaukee could lose as many as 3,000 total direct and indirect jobs if the casino is developed; and

Whereas, Milwaukee residents will have a difficult time securing employment at the proposed Kenosha casino as project supporters have instituted a hiring preference in which Milwaukee residents are third in line for any jobs at the facility; and

Whereas, In addition to the large number of jobs that would be lost, it is estimated that the City of Milwaukee would also experience a 30-40% loss in the compact revenue received from the Potawatomi Tribe and used for emergency medical services, police vehicles, and maternal and child health services; and

Whereas, Despite the efforts of members of the Common Council and Mayor Tom Barrett, federal officials have chosen to ignore the potentially-devastating economic impact of the proposed Kenosha casino on Milwaukee; and

Whereas, Prominent area business and minority organizations, including the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Urban League, have asked Governor Scott Walker to consider adverse impacts on Milwaukee when reviewing the Kenosha casino project; now, therefore, be it
