This substitute resolution expresses Common Council
opposition to the establishment of a sculpture park
at the lakefront dedicated to cancer survivors, and
suggests that Milwaukee County move part of the
Bradley Sculpture Garden Collection from its present
Brown Deer location to the lakefront.

BODY:
Whereas, One of the founders of the H & R Block
accounting firm has offered to donate as much as $1
million to Milwaukee County to establish a park in
Milwaukee dedicated to cancer survivors and aimed at
inspiring people to fight the disease; and

Whereas, One of the proposed Milwaukee sites under
consideration is about 1.5 acres of mostly county and
some city land in the Urban Park adjacent to
O'Donnell Park at the lakefront; and

Whereas, The Common Council wishes to express to
Milwaukee County its opposition to the siting of such
a sculpture display on the lakefront because other
locations, such as the grounds of the county medical
complex, would be far more appropriate and
meaningful; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of
Milwaukee, that the Common Council urges Milwaukee
County to select a site other than the lakefront,
such as the grounds of the county medical complex,
for the cancer survivor sculpture park; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Common Council suggests
that Milwaukee County move part of the Bradley
Sculpture Garden collection to the lakefront, which
the City of Milwaukee would welcome; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Common Council further
respectfully suggests that Peg Bradley, who heads the
Bradley Family Foundation Sculpture Garden, endow a
fund to move any part of the sculpture collection
from the current location at 2115 West Brown Deer
Road, River Hills, to O'Donnell Park at the
