This resolution approves leasing a portion of a City lot under the jurisdiction of the Division of Municipal Equipment located at 2142 West Canal Street to Marquette University for sports field parking and directs the Department of City Development, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works and City Attorney's Office, to negotiate a lease with Marquette University.




BODY:
Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (RACM) sold to Marquette University a parcel of land in the Menomonee River Valley abutting on Canal Street for development as a sports field facility for the University; and

Whereas, Marquette University has developed the former RACM property with various sports facilities, including a soccer field; and

_ Whereas, Marquette University is desirous of using a portion of the City-owned lot, under the jurisdiction of the Division of Municipal Equipment, Department of Public Works for parking of automobiles for scheduled events; and

Whereas, The utilization of a portion of such City-owned lot would not conflict with the Division of Municipal Equipment's use of such lot for employee parking; and

Whereas, Utilization by Marquette University of a portion of the City-owned lot would further a public purpose by holding street parking to a minimum in the area, providing the greatest utilization of green space, addressing safety and security concerns, and furthering RACM renewal plans; and
