10/13/20140 HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION PLACED ON FILE

Minutes note: Dustin Weis and Dan Mrotek present on this item. A color has been selected and the vendor in Milwaukee has made a prototype, which would say "Made in Milwaukee" which would displace 7-10 words. He'll put a plaque on his building and he can provide input on the plaque weathers. The templates are done and the metal can be switched in the future if need be. The Public Relations does have a website (milwauekee.gov/hpcplaques) and a form for interested applicants to complete which will be e-mailed to Paul and Carlen. All of it is online and functional as of this morning. The staff will do a press release on this and get the word out.

9/8/20140 HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION HELD IN COMMITTEE

Minutes note: Dustin Weiss and Dan Mrotek, City Clerk's Office, present on this item. They provided a recap of what has been decided so far, which is attached to file 130422. They did speak to Vangard, which was not interested in pursuing this. There is a potential local vendor and he really wants to make a sample and the owner would get the mold along with their plaque. He is much more expensive and a 12" aluminum sample would cost $600 (which is 3 times the cost of the other vendor discussed). He would do the sample for free, which would help determine the final cost (the $600 was an estimate), provided he is guaranteed to get the contract with the city to create these plaques. Paint degredation will always happen - the rate at which it deteriorates will be based upon how the owner maintains it. Mr. Williams supported the vendor in Florida based upon price and blue aluminum as the color and material type. The committee also supported giving the property owner a choice of going with the local vendor and then adding text "Handcrafted in Milwaukee" Mr. Willliams moved for blue aluminum. 3-1 (Ms. Opgenorth voting "no") Mr. Williams moved to provide the vendor option with the text "Handcrafted in Milwaukee" and he would be the only local craftsman. Mr. Hoeschen would like to have a model made in blue aluminum and then HPC would have it as a sample. The local vendor can make a sample for his building. Seconded by Ann Marie-Opgenorth. This item will be scheduled again when and if a sample is available and to update the Commission.

7/15/20140 HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION HELD IN COMMITTEE

Minutes note: Dustin Weis and Dan Mrotek from the City Clerk's Office present on this item. If final approval is today, the Public Information secdtin of the City Clerk's Office will create online order forms and people can begin plaquing their buildings. Mr. Mrotek went through his presentation, contained in file 130422. The vendor would be Mark Troisi and his prices were the cheapest as the does the actual work, he is not a middleman. Mr. Mrotek will check out a few local vendors recommended by commissioners. The decisions made by the commissioners are relatively generic and the vendor must have long-term viability, although all of this work is custom casting. Mr. Jakubovich noted that HPC will review any requests for plaques, although applicants can get one on their own, but would not get the design benefits from city staff. Mr. Mrotek will investigate how the blue will weather. The blue is cheaper and very eye-catching. Mr. Williams moved for cast aluminum blue. Seconded by Ms. Clendenon-Acosta. Ann Pieper. It was a tie of 3-3. Bauman, Jarosz and Opgenorth for Bronze. THis vote will be cast next cycle. The commission approved pebble as the background texture.
